THE Wire star Dominic West is making his UK debut behind the camera – and is filming in Liverpool for the next week.
Dominic, who is best known for his role as Jimmy McNulty in the cult US cop show, is directing an episode of Jimmy McGovern’s Moving On.
Life on Mars actor John Simm takes the star role in the television drama and shooting for the 45-minute episode is now taking place in the city.
Simm, best known for his role in Life on Mars – which was co-created by Southport writer Tony Jordan – is filming for episode five, titled Malaise.
Alongside Simm is Trainspotting actor Ewen Bremner.
West, who has previously only directed an episode of The Wire, got behind the camera at The Quarter in Falkner Street yesterday morning.
He cast his eye over the cafe scene starring Simm and actress Susan Lynch, shouting out instructions in his crisp English accent, a far cry from the hard-drinking Irish American cop McNulty he made famous in Baltimore-based The Wire.
Moving On is made by Kirkdale-based production company LA Productions.
